Comments: She's Geeky in One Month

I'd love to come if it were possible for me to travel out there. Meanwhile I'll give some thought to writing a post on what I'd want to talk about. :)

I would love to go to this but it's little too pricey and why is it in the daytime?

Hope there are good writeups afterward, look forward to reading what happened.

Wouldn't this be a conference, not an unconference, given the cost?

Hi Alison,
Actually, I don't think a conference that is 1.5 days is too pricy at $175. It's what it costs to rent space and buy breakfast and lunch and pay insurance, etc. There is no profit in this conference.

Most conferences, like the ones O'Reilly puts on such as ETech or OSCon cost $1500 to attend for 3 days. Most executive conferences like Web 2.0 Summit cost around $4k, and the D-Conference costs more like $6k to attend.

She's Geeky is an unconference because the format is one where everyone makes the sessions on the morning of.. it's not preprogrammed in advance.

I would say that some companies have offered to sponsor people, so contact Kaliya at the url above, because she can probably hook you up.

Ideally, there are enough sponsors so that the $175 isn't required for future She's Geeky events, but it's still just as expensive to put it on as a scheduled conference. Scheduling and cost are really two different things.
